MACHINE HEAD Guitarist Says He Is Busting Out 'Bad-Ass' Riffs On New Album
July 15, 2003MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel has posted the following recording update to the band's official forum:
"Finished my rhythm tracks on 'Hawaiian Shirt Saturday'. Topped it off with a couple Grey Goose Foo-Foos to celebrate with [Robert Flynn] and engineer Mark Keaton. Had a few rough spots, but got through 'em. Robbio's written some pretty fuckin' bad-ass riffs on this one that aren't the easiest in the world to just bust out. It's gonna be a guitar-heavy album so we want them right.
"Mr. Flynn has settled in to the producer's chair nicely and was very cool to work with in that capacity. He has some cool ideas and has my every confidence in getting it done.
"[I will] do my solos on Thursday (July 17). I've been totally looking forward to that. It's definitely my best lead work I've done."
As previously reported, MACHINE HEAD are currently recording their fifth studio album, entitled "Through The Ashes Of Empires", at Sharkbite studios in Oakland, California. The follow-up to 2001's "Supercharger" will mark the recording debut with the group of Demmel, who joined the band in early April. An October 13 European release through Roadrunner Records is expected.
